Backend Engineering at Tessian

We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join our Gateway Integration team. The Gateway team is a small, but critical, team responsible for one of Tessian’s key customer integrations - a Mail Transfer Agent. The MTA server is highly optimised for email traffic and integrates with M365, G-Suite and Exchange Server. You will be joining the team at an exciting time, working to deliver a new multi-tenant architecture, with significant business and customer impact.


The Gateway team’s tech stack includes:

Typescript, NodeJS & Python

SMTP protocol

Docker and AWS Lambda/ECS

High volume NoSQL databases

Terraform built environments


Responsibilities:

Engage with the world of Typescript, Python 3 and AWS, architecting robust distributed systems designed to manage immense volumes of SMTP traffic with exceptional speed.

Embrace the responsibility of maintaining and supporting our essential business systems, always mindful of the interplay between scale, latency, and cost.

Take on the complex task of processing highly sensitive email traffic, a challenge that will refine your skills in data security and handling.

Cultivate a supportive environment by providing thoughtful, actionable feedback, fostering growth and development among team members.


Qualifications:

Set technical direction for the team and understand what “good” looks like, maintaining a high level of technical quality across the team.

Bringing experience of working at scale, and having seen and solved diverse technical challenges in your career.

Product focus: you understand deeply how customers and the wider org are impacted by your decisions, and the work of those you influence.

Able to “see around corners” and proactively identify problems before they slow us down.

Excellent communicator, able to empathetically communicate and constructively challenge in both technical and non-technical contexts to a diverse audience.
