Character Texturing Lead Feature Animation at Bardel Entertainment
The role of the Character Texturing Lead involves ensuring that textures meet both artistic and technical standards to achieve the desired visual style of the production. The Character Texturing collaborates closely with the Lighting, CG Supervisor, and VFX Supervisor to ensure that all textures are compatible with the production pipeline. This position is of utmost importance and carries a senior level of responsibility, as it demands high artistic standards, requiring textures to align with the Art Director's vision for the project. To excel in this role, one must possess substantial production experience in texturing and lighting pipelines, as well as a deep understanding of texture painting and UV mapping. Additionally, the ability to lead and manage a busy team of surfacing artists is essential.
What you’ll be doing:
- Work closely with the Lighting team, CG/VFX Supervisor, Production, Designer, and Art Director interpreting and refining the initial appearance of models to align with the Director's vision.
- Participate in the project's early development phase, creating texture maps and refining the visual identity of key assets.
- Work alongside the CG Supervisor and Pipeline departments to define the texturing process, covering aspects such as inputs, outputs, naming conventions, scripts, and tools.
- Maintain clear communication channels between departments, particularly between Lighting and Modeling, attending meetings, and addressing texturing-related comments and issues.
- Oversee the texturing progress on a daily basis, ensuring quality control, and upholding aesthetic consistency.
- Brief texture artists and providing constructive artistic feedback to ensure uniformity in the project's visual style.
- Collaborate with the Production team to ensure that staffing, schedules, and delivery timelines are met.
- Stay updated with the latest tools, software, and advancements in the texturing and lighting pipeline.
- Create documentation for the texturing workflow across the entire production, offering guidance and knowledge sharing.
- Provide texturing notes and feedback to the overseas studio to maintain a high level of quality and consistent style throughout the production process.
What you’ll bring:
- 6+ years of experience working on a fully animated or hybrid feature film
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership role on a fully animated or hybrid feature film
- Good production experience in Maya
- Experience in texturing in variety of styles
- Experience in 3D painting of characters and props using Substance Painter and Mari
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong technical and visual skills
- Able to take direction, collaborate, and be a team player
- Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
- Skilled at improvising and problem solving
- Excellent communication, time-management, and organizational skills
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
Salary Range $2100 - $2500 CAD Weekly The Salary Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.
