Insider is hiring a news editor to join the UK newsroom and help run the UK news division.

As a news editor, you will manage and work closely with a team of UK-based news reporters, and also collaborate with our other bureaus around the world.

On an average day, you could expect to assign and edit stories on a wide range of topics, from the war in Ukraine to US politics to natural disasters.

The editor will be comfortable with a range of stories - from breaking news to analysis and features - and juggling multiple responsibilities. They should be prepared to write stories themselves on occasion.

We’re looking for someone with a passion for the daily news cycle and a knack for telling stories in a relatable and compelling way. They are also a self-starter with tons of fresh ideas as well as a skilled manager, capable of working with experienced and more junior staff. 

This role will be varied, fast-paced, and will require you to coordinate with Insider's global news team.

The ideal candidate also has:

  • Proven experience covering and editing news stories for a digital publication
  • Great news judgement 
  • Experience working at speed
  • Excellent editing, writing and communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • A strong sense of what makes a great story
  • A grasp of analytics and confidence using it to inform story choices
  • A desire to work collaboratively with the team in the UK as well as reporters and editors from the wider global newsroom
