Science & Health Editor at Newsweek
Newsweek is on the hunt for a dynamic and passionate Science Editor to join our UK team. As our Science Editor, you'll have the opportunity to source, pitch, write, and edit captivating news and feature articles on a range of scientific topics, including current affairs, health, nature, popular science, space, and trending topics. You'll be at the forefront of putting a scientific spin on major news stories and developing stories where science intersects with news and politics.
Our office is based in London, Canary Wharf, but you may work remotely from home anywhere in the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of reporters and ensure high-quality coverage that is accurate, fair, and conforms to accepted standards of journalism
- Pitch, research, and assign original stories and features
- Edit copy, checking facts and sources, to ensure content meets Newsweek’s expected quality standards
- Forward planning for events and conducting interviews
- Write articles if required and lead testing and scientific investigations.
- Build academic partnerships and perform any other reasonable duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business.
Qualifications:
- Detailed knowledge of key scientific topics, including nature, space, health, and Earth sciences.
- An interest in U.S. politics.
- Significant experience in an editing role covering scientific topics for a reputable organization.
- Experience managing a team of reporters.
- Capable of working to tight deadlines.
- Strong understanding of digital journalism and the needs of a fast-paced newsroom.
- Ability to use social media and search platforms to identify trends and conceive original articles for an American audience.
- An eye for scientific detail is a practical necessity
