Director of Threat Analysis & Security Research at Censys

Censys maintains the highest fidelity map of Internet infrastructure in the security industry, used by sophisticated threat hunting and exposure management teams in the financial, critical infrastructure, other commercial sectors as well as by researchers, government, intelligence, law enforcement, and military users. As the leader of our threat analysis and security research organization, you will be responsible for leading a team of researchers and analysts that are responsible for: (1) producing intelligence and analysis based our data, (2) leading our efforts to track specific threat actors and critical vulnerabilities, and (3) guiding our effort to produce the highest quality and most actionable Internet data.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the team of senior security researchers and intelligence analysts to produce reporting and actionable intelligence based on Censys Internet Data; own the insight and quality of Censys investigations and reports
  • Hire for and grow the research and threat analysis function over time aligned to business objectives and overarching company strategy
  • Oversee security research on emerging threats and critical Internet-facing vulnerabilities to produce original research and guide product development; oversee Censys’ rapid-response program that helps customers respond to emerging threats
  • Partner with our Go-To-Market leadership to build and oversee an analyst-focused professional services organization to support government intelligence and defense agencies; drive the quality and expertise of services-based analysis function
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to ensure that we are building an industry-leading Internet Map and Threat Hunting platform and to drive our success at comprehensively tracking adversary infrastructure and public Internet exposure
  • Serve as external-facing representative for Censys within the threat hunting and broader security ecosystem (limited travel required)

Required Qualifications

  • Proven track record leading a security research or threat analysis team
  • 8 years experience in cybersecurity; 5 years in a security/vulnerability/threat research and/or intelligence analysis
  • Strong technical knowledge of security research tradecraft, analyzing large datasets, and Internet architectures and protocols
  • Strong analytical writing skills; candidate will need to be able to communicate complex security analysis to external stakeholders in the form of finished intelligence products
  • Knowledge of geopolitical landscape and its relation to the current cyber threats
  • Exceptional attention to detail and quality in research analysis and presentation
  • Eligible for TS/SCI Security Clearance

Our target salary range for this role is between $233,000 and $250,000 + bonus eligibility and equity.

We are located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with hubs in Seattle, the Bay Area, and Washington, DC; and prefer to hire someone in one of these locations. However, we are open to the right candidate being located remotely.
