People Operations Manager at Propel

Sorry, but this job listing has expired!

Are you looking to make a big impact on a mission-driven company culture? Do you thrive working in the earlier stages of a start-up? Are you the type of person who is able to work through new problems and get things done?

Propel is on a mission to empower low-income Americans by simplifying access to government benefits with modern technology. All of our users deserve first-class experiences in their daily interactions with the social safety net and financial services. We're a passionate team of 100 Propellers - all working to help our users get through the month, every month. We’re looking for an exceptional People Operations professional to join our ranks and become a key player in shaping our future.

In this role, you'll wear many hats as a strategic partner. Here's a taste of the type of work you would lead:

  • Champion Employee Engagement: Own the engagement survey process, analyze results, and spearhead initiatives to keep our amazing team feeling valued and connected—both in HQ and remotely.
  • Become a Culture Architect: Collaborate with leaders and the POps team to co-create a thriving, strategic culture that fuels business success and fosters a sense of belonging for all. This goes beyond "fun perks" – it's about building a culture that empowers everyone to do their best work and helps us achieve our goals together. This includes some ownership of our NYC in-office initiatives.
  • Event Planning: Coordinate company events (including retreats, in-office and remote-centric experiences) and align them with company goals. Work with vendors, manage a budget, communicate with the team and help build the agenda.
  • Communication Contributor: Help us streamline our communication channels and information flow. Analyze the current landscape, propose solutions, and guide the team through the transition to a more efficient and scalable system. Support our All Hands meeting agenda, logistics and execution.
  • Special Projects Extraordinaire: Jump in and support strategic initiatives as they arise. This job will require flexibility - you will take on projects outside of your comfort zone (with a supportive team around you). If you prefer a static set of responsibilities, this role isn’t for you.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience, with 2+ of those working on a People Operations team at a start-up (preference for those who worked at companies while they were 50 - 200 people).
  • Highly proactive teammate who is eager to identify ways to make things better, and confident to act on them.
  • Known for building trust across the business. People should feel comfortable coming to you with ideas and concerns, and know that you’ll approach things with appropriate discretion.
  • Exudes positive energy and has a natural ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. You'll be the welcoming face that introduces new team members and makes everyone feel comfortable.
  • Is a strategic thinker with a knack for problem-solving, navigating roadblocks and getting things done efficiently.
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Has a keen eye for detail and a commitment to excellence.
  • Demonstrates comfort presenting and leading discussions in a way that is inclusive of all voices.
  • Shares our passion for making a real difference in people's lives.

At Propel, you'll enjoy:

  • Meaningful work and a strong shared sense of mission
  • A hybrid work environment with a dog-friendly office in Downtown Brooklyn and satellite offices in San Francisco and Salt Lake City. The team meets in-person for optional retreats and on-sites.
  • 20 Days of PTO
  • 4% 401K match
  • $10k lifetime spend towards Carrot Fertility
  • Excellent Medical, Dental and Vision options
  • Free access to Ginger mental health, Gympass, Headspace, One Medical, Rightway, Sofi, and Spring Health
  • Propel builds compensation bands referencing the 75th percentile of compensation for companies like us. Expected compensation for the role as scoped is $120,000 - $160,000 and will be based on how a candidate matches to our internal leveling guide. Bands may be expanded if someone is leveled more senior than the role was initially scoped.

Additional Considerations:

  • We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team, and welcome applicants from all backgrounds and abilities.
  • An NYC presence with the ability to be in the office 2-3 days/week is strongly preferred. In select and rare circumstances, we’ll consider remote candidates with exceptional qualifications and deeper experience levels.

More About Propel

We believe that Americans with limited income deserve modern, respectful, and effective experiences around their government benefits and money. Unfortunately, the status quo often fails to treat them as first-class citizens in their daily interactions around the social safety net and financial services. The tech industry hasn’t pulled its weight in solving the problems faced by low-income Americans.

Propel’s mission is to change that. We’ve built Providers, the single most popular app in the country built specifically for low-income Americans. Over 5 million families each month use Providers to seamlessly manage their government benefits (programs like SNAP, commonly known as food stamps), conduct their banking, and save and earn money. Providers has been recognized by the White House, featured on the front page of the NYTimes, and carries over 500,000 five star reviews.

Propel is a for-profit, venture-backed company that holds its social mission at its core. We’re proud to be supported by a blend of nonprofits, impact investors, and world-class investors, including the Robin Hood Foundation, Andreessen Horowitz, Nyca Partners, Financial Health Network, JPMorganChase, Kevin Durant, Serena Williams, and Nas.

Join us, and let's build something amazing together!
